RIVER JEWELWING (Calopteryx aequabilis) A large 2” iridescent damselfly of northern streams. Its legs are very long and black, perching on streamside vegetation and rocks. The wings beat slowly and butterfly like. The female has prominent white stigmas. This damselfly flies from late spring to early summer.
About the artist, Nan Wilson:
Nan's focus is on uncultivated plants and creatures from the wild. And not just in their most beautiful states, but in all phases of their life cycles. Included are not only beautiful adult butterflies or dragonflies but those overlooked, downtrodden critters and plants often stigmatized as weeds or pests that many people uproot or spray. She dedicates her art to honoring and protecting them.
